I was watching the South Carolina* Gamecocks play the Florida Gators and noticed a player with a nice name on the back of his jersey, ‘Integrity’. I thought, now that is a name to live up to! Then I noticed another whose jersey said, ‘Courage’. I thought, ‘Huh, that is odd!’ Now I was curious and as I looked for other names I found the following names:
- Courage
- Integrity
- Honor
- Duty
- Service
- Commitment
The first thing I thought of was Tennessee’s recent player troubles and the fact that South Carolina had seen their fair share of problems, too. Perhaps this was Steve Spurrier’s way to impress ‘character’ on the players. It could serve another purpose - to create ‘unity’ on the team whereas the emphasis on character quality rather than on individual players. However, I was suspecting there was another explanation. So, I looked at Twitter and didn’t see anything and then looked at Google where I found an article on CharlotteObserver.com. There I learned that it was a tribute to the military. It pointed out that they also had camouflage on their sleeve near their shoulder. Maryland did the same. Nice touch! Also, nice effort in the game South Carolina!
