One of our teachers in my school was wanting some good material to teach a lesson on the Panama Canal. I set off looking for materials and enjoyed the journey! The Panama Canal is fascinating to me. Here are some of the resources that I found (that weren’t blocked at my school - ex. YouTube and Google Videos are blocked).
The picture on front changes. Also, there are lots of interesting stuff under “Multimedia” at the top

You might find some good ideas among the lesson plan though. - http://calonline.cusd.com/ ushistoryS1/module03/ 03lessons/0303.htm
No video but great info from the Smithsonian Institute - http://www.sil.si.edu/ Exhibitions/Make-the-Dirt-Fly/ whybuild.html
